The four seasons of the Gulf beaches

Winter Jan – mid-Mar

Snowbird season. Mild 70-degree days, no humidity, and the calmest Gulf of the year. Monthly rentals dominate, and spring training brings the Phillies to Clearwater and the Blue Jays to Dunedin from mid-February. Pack a light jacket for evenings.

Spring mid-Mar – May

The headline season. Spring break crowds and peak rates in March give way to April and May, arguably the finest stretch of the year: 80-degree days, a Gulf warm enough to swim, and rates already easing. The Sugar Sand Festival fills Pier 60 in late April.

Summer Jun – Aug

Hot, lively, and family-first. The Gulf turns bath-warm, mornings are glorious, and a brief late-afternoon thunderstorm resets the evening for sunset at Pier 60. August is the sleeper: the warmest water of the year at some of the lowest rates.

Fall Sep – Dec

The value season. September and October are the quietest and cheapest months, the humidity breaks, and stone crab season opens October 15. November may be Florida's best-kept secret, and December stays mild right through the holidays.

A straight answer on hurricane season

Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking from late August through October. Direct hits on this coast are rare, and most storm-season days here are simply beautiful, but forecasts deserve respect in the peak weeks. If you are booking September or October to catch those low rates, consider travel insurance for peace of mind, keep an eye on the forecast the week before you travel, and know that we communicate early and clearly with every guest whenever weather threatens.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest time to visit Clearwater Beach?

October, based on our booking data, with August and September close behind. Typical nightly rates in these months run roughly a third below the March peak, and the Gulf is still warm enough to swim in all three.

When is Clearwater Beach most crowded?

March, during spring break, when occupancy and rates both peak. February, April, June, and July are the next busiest. If crowds are not your thing, September and October are the quietest months of the year.

When is the Gulf warm enough to swim?

Most visitors find it comfortable from April (around 74°F) through November (around 71°F). It peaks at 86 to 87°F in July and August, genuinely bath-warm.

Should I worry about hurricane season?

Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking late August to October. Direct hits here are rare and most storm-season days are lovely, but if you book the fall value months, travel insurance is a sensible add-on and we recommend watching the forecast the week before you arrive.

What is the best month overall?

If we had to pick: late April into May. Summer warmth without summer humidity, a swimmable Gulf, thinner crowds than March, and rates well off the peak. October is the value-hunter's answer.

When should snowbirds book a monthly rental?

Six to twelve months ahead. January through March monthly rentals are our most in-demand inventory, and the best homes are reserved by late summer. Browse our monthly rentals early to get first pick.
