About Pier 60

Pier 60 is located in the heart of Clearwater Beach. It juts 1,080 feet into the Gulf and offers family-friendly leisure and recreation.
Pier 60 has long been a staple of visiting Clearwater Beach. The original wooden pier was built on the same site in 1928. As it grew in popularity, it was replaced with the official Pier 60 in 1962, named for being the end of State Road 60 crossing Florida.
The pier received another update in the 1990s to further enhance its structure.

Things to do at Pier 60

You don’t have to work hard to keep boredom at bay during your Clearwater Beach vacation when you’ve got Pier 60 so close to your vacation rental. Here’s why it’s so popular.
Enjoy the Views
The stunning coastal scenery from the pier reveals why Clearwater Beach is one of the best beaches in America.
The pier extends far enough into the sea to get a sweeping view of the Clearwater Beach coast lined with white sand and towering beachfront hotels and resorts. Since it’s located on Florida’s western shore, it overlooks the Gulf with unobstructed views, particularly when you stand at the very end of the pier.
If you want a good vantage point for watching water sports like parasailing and kiteboarding, the pier is a good choice. Look down into the clear ocean waters to discover plenty of fish swimming around, too.
Go Fishing
The fish aren’t just for looking at. With such an abundance, it’s tempting to pull out your fishing rod and see if you can actually catch any of them!
Spanish mackerel, flounder, snook, and sheepshead are just a few of the fish species you’ll reel in at the pier.
The bait and tackle shop at the pier provides rods, bait, tackle, and other fishing gear. Don’t forget to ask for tips on the best spots to catch fish. The pier is open 24 hours, so night fishing is also very popular here.
It costs $12 to fish at Pier 60, and your pass lasts all day long.
Get A Shaded Spot on the Beach
You’ll experience the hot, Florida sun in full effect during your time in Clearwater Beach. Arrive early, and you may be able to snag a shaded spot underneath the pier to keep cool.
It helps save money on umbrella rentals, and there’s plenty of space for a beach towel or beach chairs. Not to mention the unique vantage point underneath the pier.
Have a Photoshoot
It’s time to pull out that outfit you’ve been saving for the perfect photo opportunity. Pier 60 is an iconic location and one of the most photographed landmarks in Clearwater Beach.
There are plenty of spots to pick from: the iconic Pier 60 sign at the entrance, beneath the pier’s pavilions, along the rails with the beach backdrop, or at the end of the pier with nothing but the shimmering blue waters behind you.
Spot Marine Life
Small fish aren’t the only marine life you’ll spot hanging around the pier. Visit during the early morning for your best chance to spot dolphins. From late October to March, you might also be lucky enough to see manatees swimming near shore.
You can spot these marine animals with your own eyes or drop a quarter into the telescopes at the end of the pier to see even further out into the Gulf.
Take a Morning Jog
It’s easy to get all your steps in for the day simply by walking the pier. Throughout the day, you may see people enjoying a leisure stroll or light jog up and down the pier. Mornings on weekdays and non-peak travel times are best, since it can get busy.
Play at Pier 60 Park
Pier 60 Park is located right in front of the pier. It’s a beachfront green space that gives kids a break from the water sport fun. It features a kid’s playground, an inflatable slide, a bungee trampoline, and more.
Entrance is free, but tickets are required for the rides and activities.

Sunsets at Pier 60

Sunsets at Pier 60 have happened every evening since 1995. It’s a nightly sunset celebration that brings shopping and entertainment to the pier.
Two hours before sunset, vendors set up tables to sell artisan jewelry, art, and other great souvenir options. Walk past live artists creating artwork, and when the sun is down, live fire-spinner street performers will light up the night.
This family-friendly event is free for everyone.
